Follicular Unit Extraction

It is a sutureless technique of hair restoration in which extraction and transplantation occur under local anesthesia with the introduction of micro punches on the bald area or the recipient site.

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) (Stitchless and Scarless Procedure)

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) (Stitchless and Scarless Procedure), also known as FOX procedure, is one of primary methods of obtaining follicular units. Generally, we take naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs for hair transplantation. Follicular units are extracted directly from donor area with use of micropunches. This method involves extracting single follicular units from the back portion of the scalp (donor area) and transplanting them onto the bald area (recipient area). These follicles require to be extracted from the permanent hair-bearing area only; otherwise, those patients still susceptible to baldness will lose their hair.
In FUE, the grafts are extracted as individual follicular unit in a two-step or three-step process, but the method of transplantation remains the same as in the conventional FUT technique. We use smaller punch sizes to minimize the size of the scar. The punch size generally range from 0.6 -1.0 mm in diameter.follicular unit extraction

Advantages of FUE

The FUE technique is minimally invasive and FUE generally has quicker patient recovery time and significantly lower post-operative discomfort than follicular unit transplantation. In this method, graft preparation is minimal. It requires less equipment for the procedure. Follicular unit extraction method is technique sensitive and precision oriented. We can harvest follicular units up to 3500 in one session called the super mega session. FUE provides an alternative to FUT when the scalp is too tight for a strip excision and enables a hair transplant surgeon to harvest finer hair from the nape of the neck to be used at the hairline or from eyebrow.FUE technique can be performed at any part of body area like chest beard, back, abdomen, arms, groin, etc., so the donor area is almost all hair-bearing parts of body.
